NZS 8603:2005 A1

Design and application of outdoor recreation symbols: Amendment 1:2012

This document has been re-assessed by the committee, and judged to still be up to date.

New local authority camping-related bylaws will be prepared in 2012 that will reference the Freedom Camping Act 2011 and it is important that a clear distinction be made between vehicles that are self-contained in accordance with NZS 8603:2005 and those that are not. This amendment will enable local authorities and the Department of Conservation to manage the environmental, social, and economic impacts of freedom camping in their regions and across the country with a distinctive new symbol. Figure A92a identifies that a camper van is self-contained and is certified self-contained to NZS 5465:2001. Figure A60 has been amended to describe the symbol as a personal water craft and not jet-ski as depicted in the current Standard. The amendment aligns with AS/NZS 2416.1:2010 and ISO 20712-1:2008.
